Transylvania Hostel FAQs

While we do have parties and celebrations from time to time, Transylvania Hostel is not a party hostel. Most of the partying takes place outside the hostel in the numerous pubs and clubs that are just minutes from our door.

In Cluj you can generally trust taxi drivers from a registered taxi company, such as Diesel or Nova. A legitimate taxi driver will not approach you inside the airport, bus, or train station. Regardless of the company, always ask the driver to turn on the meter.

All guests must provide a passport or other government issued identification in order to check in. No one will be checked in without proper identification.

Check-in begins at 14:00 (2:00pm). Checkout is at 11:00 am.

As the checkout time for previous guests is 11:00 am and the rooms need to be cleaned, we cannot promise that your bed will be available if you arrive early. If you will arrive very early (for example 5:00am) it is advisable to book the night before to ensure that the bed will not be occupied when you arrive. Our beds are rented by the night rather than the day, so 5:00am is still considered to be the previous night.

It is advisable to make a reservation in order to ensure that there is space in the hostel, but it is not mandatory. Walk-ins (guests without reservations) are also welcome.

Just click the ‘Book Now’ button at the top of this page. Select the type of room that you would like and your dates of stay. Your reservation will be confirmed with a credit card.

Children under the age of 18 are welcome in private rooms or in dormitories in which all beds have been booked by the same reservation. Children are not permitted to sleep in shared dormitories with other travelers. Also children under 18 years old must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

One child under the age of three may share the existing bed with a parent for free. Children over three-years-old will be charged the regular rates for a bed. The entire dormitory must be booked under the same reservation if children under 18 years old will be sleeping there, as children are not permitted to sleep in shared dormitories with other travelers.

We do not offer discounts for long stays. The maximum length of stay permitted is 14 days.

For Individuals: Reservations must be canceled before 12:00 noon on the day before your scheduled arrival date. All cancellations made after this time will be charged the full amount for the first night of the reservation.
For Groups: See the cancellation policy in your contract.

No. We are an independent hostel, and we do not require a membership card of any kind.

Romania is not in the Euro zone, and by law we can only make transactions in Romanian Lei. There is a cash machine and a currency exchange office two minutes from the hostel.

That depends on where you book. If you book through our website, then the 10% deposit will go to the hostel. Any other third-party booking site will keep that 10% as a commission. The hostel will never receive any of that money. Booking websites can be good for researching a destination, but it is always best to book your bed directly with the hostel.

No. Every guest must have a bed of their own. When the hostel is full we will stop accepting reservations.

We do not offer discounts for students.

There is street parking in front of the hostel. The city charges 2 Lei for 30 minutes or up to 12 Lei for 3 hours. Parking is free on Weekdays from 21:00 – 07:00 and all day on Sundays. There are more parking facilities nearby for longer stays.

We do not have camping facilities.

No. We provide sheets free of charge. Sleeping bags are not permitted for sanitary reasons.

No. This is a backpackers hostel, not a hotel.

We do not have our own restaurant, but there are many restaurants nearby.

Absolutely! We have a large kitchen for you to use. Feel free to cook up a gourmet masterpiece.

We have a light breakfast with cereals, milk, and jam.

Yes. We offer a free guest computer with internet as well as free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel.

Our bathrooms are accessible to all guests. You are welcome to use any bathroom that is available.

We offer private rooms in addition to shared dormitories.

All of our dormitories are mixed-gender, so you could be sharing the dorm with boys or with girls depending on who has booked for the same dates. We do not offer single-sex dormitories.

You are welcome to smoke outside on the balcony or in the garden.

No. You are all big boys and girls, and you can come and go as you please. Note; There is a keycode entry at nighttime.

We have a private double room that is perfect for couples. Aside from that room, each person will need to book their own bed.
