At one second past midnight on January 1, the day will changed from Sunday to Monday, and 2017 will ended so that 2018 could begin. This unique tick of the clock has always prompted us to celebrate, to reflect, to look back and resolve to do better going forward.
Nothing is more beautiful than a new beginning and the hope that it brings along. Nothing is more fulfilling than a glass of good wine and a table full of international dishes. Nothing is better than popping-up the champagne in Piața Unirii and watching the fireworks. And Transylvania Hostel was there for you so that you could count down to midnight in style!
We started our night by cooking a very hearty dinner AKA The N.Y.E. Potluck, where everybody was invited to contribute with something traditional from their home country or something inspired by their travels, as the theme we chose was Global Street Food . We ended up with pasta in Italian style, zacuscă, guacamole, caramelized apples, bruschetta, pizza, lots of cookies & more.
After fulfilling our tummies we went on with fulfilling our souls by resolving, laughing and running around the hostel in order to fill up the Scavenger Hunt.
We talked in a speed-dating-style about our best memories and also about our most embarrassing moments in 2017, about our favorite songs, the most memorable conversations and the best trips that we had during this year. As we got to know each other a little bit better, we purchased to draw up our resolutions for the upcoming year and then laughed so hard when we shared them.
And after we set new goals and new dreams for 2018, we decided to end the evening in a funny manner, so we had a Trivia Quiz to check out how much attention did we pay to the public life and the events going on in the world at the moment and a Scavenger Hunt, where people had to bring items such as a tiara, bells and something glittery, had to take pictures in the improvised photo booth and had to take videos of them doing the New Year’s Eve traditions from all around the world such as wearing red underwear (Italy), eating 12 grapes at midnight (Spain) or burning the paper where you have writen
your dream/resolution for the upcoming year and drinking the ashes together with the champagne (Russia). In the end, we had a lot of fun watching the hilarious videos and the pictures that were taken and, of course, we had a hard time choosing the winners.
And, of course, we summed it all up with the champagne and the fireworks at the midnight in the main square and by joining a big hora, dancing to the live Romanian music. We danced until the morning at the RAVELION after party!
Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one!
